Director's Statement
Why is female sexuality such a taboo subject? Why is so rare to see women’s sexual journey portrait on screen?
The idea for this film was born during my studies of feminist film theory and my desire to present a female perspective as a counterpoint to the “male gaze” so dominant in the film industry. I was highly influenced by European feminist theorists such as Laura Mulvey and female directors like Agnès Varda and Chantal Akerman, who brought a new light to telling women’s stories.
That is how “THE PLEASURE IS ALL MINE” was born, as a statement of female agency through an elderly woman's journey to discover pleasure and explore her sexuality. We witness Amélia and her bittersweet experimentation towards freedom and pleasure. Still, instead of the typical shame or embarrassment associated with these topics, there is humor, joy, and relief in her self-discovery.
